Venice, Italy
Me: What size burger do you want?
Strange Gal: Whatever fits in my mouth
Me: I don't think you wanna put it that way.
Strange Gal: Where else am I going to put it?
Arrived in Venice today, and immediately was relieved to feel 80 degree temperatures. Also, the British Isles always feel like training wheel traveling, and I felt this morning that the game was on. I will get to the meat and potatoes below. But first, a few choice words on Ryanair.
No one likes you Ryanair, with your Toys-R-Us planes and street merchant business philosophy.
Oh, you want to recline your seat? 2 Euro
You would like to read the in-flight safety manual? 5 Euro
Oh, and use a life jacket upon a crash landing? Three easy payments of 19.95
Also, I seemed to find them on kids fly free day. Jesus, there was a small army of infants all screaming bloody murder and requiring lazy jaunts down the aisle to calm their spirits. Not to mention, I fucked up the ticket and had to sprint to the security check point and back in approximately 387 seconds--nearly perished.
But on to Venice, and yes it is the most unique place on earth. The city rose to glory during the high Middle Ages as the continent's middle men between East and West. As of 1450, at the height of the city before the Age of Discovery, Venice was 6 times larger than London and had a GDP higher than most countries.
Venice's influence is incredibly vast, spawning a style of architecture, city development, and business organization. I look forward to traveling other spots on the Adriatic and pretty much any place between here and Istanbul to experience the wide historical significance of this city.
The pictures below are minus the famous St. Mark's Square, but I will have those tomorrow. However, I nearly lost my shorts when I first spotted the domed Santa Maria Della Salute about half way down this list.
LISTENING:
Also, I'm tired as all hell. I've been walking about ten miles a day, and there were a gaggle of Irish lads screaming fight songs all night before I ran off to the airport at 4am.
